I Love My Hair!

By now, the entire world  (or so it would seem) has seen the Sesame St video shouting out pride and extreme adoration for little brown girls everywhere.  I heard about it weeks ago and quite honestly (like everyone else), I thought ABOUT TIME!  So many of my sisters have expressed gratitude for Sesame Street going that extra mile; bringing to the forefront, an issue that has haunted and tormented (us) for decades.

Check it out..

Happy Re-Birthday to my locs!

Finally, my locs have reached their 12month mark! People from all over warned me about the patience that's required when you're starting locs...I clearly underestimated that advice.  There were days where I regretted my decision with 'how' I started my locs..I wanted to cut them off and start over...I wanted to cut them to be more uniform in size...the frizzies got on my LAST nerve..my scalp itched like crazy and there were just days that I didn't feel pretty.

Low and behold, I made it and even decided to color my locs to celebrate.  I absolutely LOVE the color, my loctitian did a great job. I know it's lame to say, but I forgot the actual name of the color..my specific instructions to her were that I wanted my locs "red".  And that's what I got...

August 2010 - RED HOT!

A few of my other loc styles over the past few months....

May 2010 - Ponytail Updo

June 2010 - Quick Pin-up

Loc'ing right along

My babies are 8 months old and coming along quite nicely.  The frizzys really, really, really used to get on my nerves, but now I've gotten used to it ---on this journey, you've GOT to "learn to love the frizzys"! Cause believe me, at this stage, they ain't going nowhere!

Anywho...here's my latest....

Like 'em? How are you coming along with your au'natural?

NOW! NOW! NOW!

We live in an instant society: instant messaging, drive – through food, microwaves, text messaging, IPods, IPhones, Blackberrys — just about anything we want NOW we can have. No wonder some people have confused technology speed with relational speed. After all, this is the decade of ’speed dating’, right?  Or so some, would think....

The problem is that there is no way to rush intimacy. Speed dating does not equal relationship security and knowledge. There is only one way to know someone and that is through time. There are no short cuts. Many people think that if you substitute the time you would spend with someone over a year of knowing them and squeeze that time into a 24/7 relationship, then you will get the same results...sorry..wrong again. To often there is an inappropriate pacing in relationships in which people early on begin to spend 24/7 with a new person..---this will not work, I REPEAT, this is DANGEROUS!!!!! They give up their outside hobbies, friends, families, and lifestyles. They think that if someone WANTS to spend 24/7 with them, they must be ‘really into them.

Wrong, wrong, wrong!!!!!!

Finding yourself in this type of situation is destined to be a miserable and regretful relationship.

Loc'd for life

It's been 5 months since I first twisted my hair to start my locs.  I first started with comb coils, but after wearing them for about 3 weeks, I wasn't too impressed.  I then had my hair twisted with two-strand twists, which I absolutely LOVE! My babies are growing and each day, I become more and more in love with them.
