I woke up this morning feeling rested; I looked good and I felt good. I think part of the reason I felt so good was because while I was getting dressed, I was also listening to Barack Obama on the Steve Harvey Morning show. I'm assuming his phone call was a surprise to the entire cast because Shirley probably almost peed her pants when Steve said he was on the phone!! lol But anyway, still feeling all warm and touched from his commercial ad last night, I could have sang Obama praises all morning long.
We found out a few weeks back that we were going to have job cuts sometime in October/early November, we just didn't know to what extent or exactly when the annoucments would be made. Several different departments began to get notifications this past Monday. It's always quiet, reserved and somber around this place when this happens (which feels like almost every other year). Everyone's on pins and needles. Not knowing when you'll get a phone call, a knock on your office door, or that dreadful "Can I talk to you for just a minute?", from your boss. Luckily seems like an oxymoron right about now, but luckily my department was called into a quick huddle yesterday to let us know that no impacts would be made to our area.....this week! It was almost like a sigh of relief, but not quite. We weren't told any specifics, but we were told that the impacts would be "minimal". To some folks, it made them feel better to know that at least management knew that we were out here concerned, worried and tired of listening to the rumors that had been floating around all day long.
In light of the wonderful start I had this morning, the glow I began with slowly started to fade away as I got into the office and attempted to start my day. It was around 40 degrees this morning, so the surprise fire drill we had didn't help at all. The kicker was coming back in, only to find a memo from the CEO to all employees (with specifics) and then the post on CNN and Yahoo News. What really sucks is that the one person whom I thought would be my pillar of support right now......isn't. Where's that one good friend when you need one?
